Safety Protocol

Chest pain protocol

A chest pain protocol that was rolled out across the system in 2014 has increased quality and decreased patient costs by eliminating non-essential tests and reducing unnecessary observations and hospital readmissions.


A formulary standardization has lowered costs by ensuring only those medications that are safe, effective and offer good value are included on the SSM system-wide formulary. The goal is to find $10 million in savings over three years.

A CQI Plus team recovered nearly a million dollars in unpaid insurance claims by enhancing medical documentation for patients who received automated implantable cardiac defibrillators.
