Chest pain protocol
A chest pain protocol that was rolled out across the system in 2014 has increased quality and decreased patient costs by eliminating non-essential tests and reducing unnecessary observations and hospital readmissions.
A formulary standardization has lowered costs by ensuring only those medications that are safe, effective and offer good value are included on the SSM system-wide formulary. The goal is to find $10 million in savings over three years.

25 physician practices across SSM have earned Level III Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). It’s the NCQA’s highest level of achievement for practices that use evidence-based, patient-centered processes that emphasize care coordination and communication. Medical homes can lead to higher quality and lower costs.
Exceptional Care at Home
Audrain County Health Department’s Home Health and Hospice Division became SSM Health at Home – Audrain on Oct. 1. The acquisition supports our goal to enhance population health management capabilities.
